Belonging comes first
Before we teach anything, we build trust. Warm greetings, predictable rhythms and educators who know each child help children feel safe enough to learn.
Home About
Since 1991, Chelmer Station Community Kindergarten has been owned and loved by the families it serves — a true community kindy, run not for profit but for children.
Our story
Chelmer Station Community Kindergarten opened on 31 December 1991, founded by local parents who believed their neighbourhood deserved a kindy of its own.
More than thirty years later, that founding spirit remains. We are community-owned, governed by a volunteer parent committee and operated entirely as a not-for-profit early childhood service.
There are no shareholders and no distant head office. Fees support educators, learning materials, gardens and safe play spaces, and any surplus is reinvested into the kindy for the children who use it.
Some of today's parents once played here themselves. That continuity is part of what makes the kindy a genuine community place rather than just a service.

What we believe
Before we teach anything, we build trust. Warm greetings, predictable rhythms and educators who know each child help children feel safe enough to learn.
Building, pretending, digging and negotiating over the red truck are how young children practise language, maths, science and friendship.
Mud kitchens, native gardens, shady trees and open space are central to learning here, not extras added when the real work is done.
Parents and carers know their children best. Working bees, committee roles and everyday conversations keep home and kindy connected.
The official bits
We are accountable to our community and to the national charities regulator. These details match our public charity record.
We are a small charity registered with the ACNC and listed on the public Charity Register.
A volunteer parent management committee oversees the kindy on behalf of current and future families.
No part of the kindy's income provides private benefit to an owner or shareholder.
